Deqa Dhalac, a Democrat from South Portland. Rep. Dhalac is a social worker and has served in the state legislature since being elected in November 2022.
In 2021, more than 30 years after first coming to the U.S. to flee the civil war in Somalia, she became the first Somali-American mayor in the country. She is also currently serving on the South Portland City Council, and she is the co-founder of Cross-Cultural Community Services and the assistant executive director at Gateway Community Services in Portland.
