CURRENT REPRESENTATIVE:

David LaFountain, a Democrat from Winslow. Sen. LaFountain has served in the state legislature since being elected in November 2022.

Sen. LaFountain has over 40 years of experience in public service. As a career firefighter and as Winslow and Waterville Fire Chief, he spent his career serving families in Central Maine the best of times and the hardest of times. Sen. LaFountain supervised the operations of the Central Maine Emergency Response Team that was subject to respond primarily to HAZMAT calls in Kennebec and Somerset Counties. He also trained with the Maine Army National Guard’s 11th Weapons of Mass Destruction – Civil Support Team based in Waterville. Sen. LaFountain also served on the Central Maine Incident Management Team, a group of Regional First Responders responsible for managing safety and management at the scene of large-scale incidents. For 35 years, he enjoyed serving as a Senior Fire Instructor for Maine Fire Training and Education delivering classes around the state to our first responders.

Sen. LaFountain serves as chairman of the inland fisheries and wildlife committee which covers the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife; inland fisheries and wildlife research and management; hunting; fishing; trapping; hunter safety; fish hatcheries; game wardens; guides; taxidermist licensing; ATVs; snowmobiles; watercraft registration and boater safety; and whitewater rafting.

LaFountain also serves on the criminal justice and public safety committee which covers the Maine Criminal Code; Maine Juvenile Code; Maine Bail Code; criminal law and criminal procedure; criminal history record information; domestic violence; human trafficking; sex trafficking; sentencing; Criminal Law Advisory Commission; Department of Public Safety; law enforcement; Criminal Justice Academy; victims’ rights; Victims Compensation Fund; Department of Corrections; adult and juvenile corrections; intensive supervision; probation and parole; county jails; community corrections; adult-use marijuana crimes; operating under the influence; operating after suspension; habitual offenders; fire safety and arson; firefighters and emergency responders; firearms; concealed handgun permits; private investigators; security guards; amusement rides; and Maine Emergency Management Agency.
