CURRENT REPRESENTATIVE:
Stacy Brenner, a Democrat from Scarborough. Sen. Brenner has served in the state legislature since being elected in November 2020.
Sen. Brenner is an organic farmer and small business owner who co-founded and now operates Broadturn Farm in Scarborough. She spent her early working career as a nurse-midwife, and now works part time for Maine Farmland Trust as the Senior Advisor for Land Access. In 2002, Stacy and her husband, John, moved to Maine to become first-generation farmers. In 2006, Stacy and John opened Broadturn Farm, which produces cut flowers and organic vegetables and hosts weddings. The farm is a thriving example of economic development on farmland protected with an agricultural easement funded by the Land for Maine’s Future program.
Sen. Brenner serves on the bills in the second reading committee and on the environment and natural resources committee.
The committee on bills in the second reading is a customary committee in the senate. It does not require meetings in today’s legislative operations. However, Senate Rule 510 states that all bills and resolves in their second reading must be committed to the committee on bills in the second reading to be examined and corrected.
The environment and natural resources committee covers air and water quality; natural resource protection; site location of development laws, shoreland zoning, subdivisions and growth management; management and disposal of solid, hazardous, biomedical and special wastes; returnable containers; hydropower and dams; waste-to-energy facilities; mining; wind energy development; and general environmental policy, including oversight of the Department of Environmental Protection.
