To deliver fearless, independent, citizen-supported, nonpartisan journalism that informs Mainers about the issues impacting our state and inspires them to take action. Through investigative and in-depth stories, we engage readers to participate and connect to create a better Maine.

The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting through its news publication, The Maine Monitor, is committed to providing high-quality investigative journalism that is independent, non-partisan, and non-ideological, and to telling and sharing stories with respect, empathy, and accuracy.

The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting undertook a strategic planning process in 2022 that lays out a vision for where the organization and its publication, The Maine Monitor, aim to be by 2026.
The plan identifies four key strategic priorities to achieve the vision.
