A better-informed, more engaged Maine begins with you.

At the heart of our journalism is you — our reader. At The Maine Monitor, our mission is to bring you insightful, fact-based news that informs Mainers and empowers them to participate in shaping the future of our state.

this seal shows that the maine center for public interest reporting, which publishes the maine monitor, received Candid's 2025 seal of platinum transparency rating.

We keep our reporting free for everyone to access because we want there to be no barriers to people in Maine accessing and benefiting from our independent reporting. The support of our readers makes this possible.

During our Year-End Fundraising Drive, we need to raise $275,000 to ensure our newsroom has the reporting resources they need to keep serving Maine. Your tax-deductible donation helps Mainers understand — and shape — the places they call home through more of The Maine Monitor’s local coverage, investigations, and civic information they can act on.

Are you ready to invest in independent journalism for Maine?

Individual donations provide critical financial support for our nonprofit news work. All donations are tax-deductible, and all donors become members.

The Maine Monitor is the publication of the 501(c)3 nonprofit Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting (EIN 27-2623867).
