Matthew Beck, a Democrat from South Portland. Rep. Beck is retired and has served in the state legislature since being elected in March 2024.

Rep. Beck worked at a number of radio stations before taking a job at a local public television station and then at a CBS affiliate. In 1987, Rep. Beck was hired by WGME Channel 13 as a television producer and director. Over a nearly 20-year career, he received numerous awards for his work on news, sports, public affairs and special programming, including more than a dozen telethons for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Children’s Miracle Network at Maine Medical Center. In 2006, Beck started a new career as a union organizer in Maine and New Hampshire with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He retired from IBEW Local 1837 after 17 years.
Rep. Beck serves on the labor committee which covers the Department of Labor; wage and hour laws; working conditions, including health and safety; unemployment compensation; workers’ compensation; labor relations; collective bargaining; private sector retirement; Workers’ Compensation Board; Maine Labor Relations Board; professional and occupational licensing; retirement eligibility and benefits for state and municipal employees, including teachers; judicial and legislative retirement systems; Maine Public Employees Retirement System; and public services.
