Maine’s population grew by 3% since 2016

York County saw the largest growth since 2016 while Aroostook County saw the largest drop in population.

The Maine Monitor has compiled a comparison by county, and cumulatively statewide and nationwide, of the percentage of population growth in Maine between 2016 and 2021.

Nearly all counties in Maine have seen some level of growth between 2016 and 2021, though three counties have seen declines during that timeframe.

Maine has seen a growth of 3.1 percent compared to a 2.8 percent growth for the United States. The population of the state as of July 1, 2021 was 1,372,247, according to the US Census.
