Sean Scott and Daniel O’Connor will begin reporting for The Maine Monitor this summer.

The Maine Monitor will welcome two Report for America corps members into its newsroom in July.

Sean Scott will launch a unique beat in Maine covering religion, politics and society. He comes to The Monitor with wide-ranging experience, including having launched a nonprofit weekly print newspaper and website in a market with no year-round news sources.

In partnership with the Bangor Daily News, our newsroom will also welcome Daniel O’Connor to report on state and local government, with a particular focus on rural communities. O’Connor comes to Maine after covering politics and other topics as a freelance writer for two years while pursuing his master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University in New York City. He is a 2023 graduate of Seton Hall University in New Jersey, where he studied journalism.

Scott will work in The Monitor’s newsroom, while O’Connor will work with editors from both the Bangor Daily News and The Maine Monitor. All of their reporting will be available, paywall free, on our website and in our newsletters.

“We’re thrilled to expand reporting for Maine with these new corps members. As a Report for America alumna, I can attest to how transformational this program is for young journalists and the communities they serve,” said Kate Cough, editor of The Maine Monitor.

Report for America is a national service program that matches local newsrooms with talented reporters who work to provide in-depth coverage on under-reported issues and communities.
