FAIRFIELD — The Town Council on Wednesday approved several financial and infrastructure items, discussed upcoming holiday closures and provided updates on the town’s plans to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence.
Town officials said all nonemergency municipal departments will close Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. Emergency services will remain fully operational.
Councilors also highlighted Fairfield’s upcoming celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, scheduled for Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11. Events are expected to include an 8 p.m. parade July 10 followed by fireworks. The rain date is Sunday, July 12.

Officials noted that volunteers are still needed to assist with the celebration and encouraged interested community members to contact the Town Office or a member of the Town Council for details on how to get involved.
Later in the meeting, the council formally accepted and authorized the expenditure of donations received to support festivities marking the 250th anniversary.
Councilors also unanimously approved the fiscal 2027 budget for Crossroads-TV, the community television station. The budget was first presented and discussed during the council’s June 10 meeting.
In addition, the council approved the Sewer Enterprise Budget for fiscal 2027 as presented at the council’s June 10 meeting.
The council approved one of the larger expenditures presented at the meeting: repairs to the Fairfield Community Center roof.
Councilors voted to use $153,731 from the Building Capital Reserve Account to fund the project and, on the Public Works director’s recommendation, awarded the contract to G&E Roofing Co. Inc. of Augusta.
The project aims to address ongoing maintenance needs at the Community Center and preserve the town‑owned facility for future use.
Councilors also approved the use of $13,208.77 from the Fire Department’s Capital Equipment Reserve Account to repair the pump on Engine 3.
The repair is intended to help keep the department’s equipment operational and ready to respond to emergencies.
The council also voted to authorize the use of contingency funds, if necessary, through June 30, 2026, to cover expenditures that exceed annual budgeted amounts before the close of the fiscal year.
The next Fairfield Town Council meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, in the Council Chambers at 61 Water St., with streaming on Zoom and Crossroads-TV.
