MADISON — The Select Board welcomed two newly elected members Monday night, chose its leadership for the coming year and unanimously approved expanded responsibilities for Town Manager Cheyenne Stevens as the town prepares to close out fiscal 2026.
Christopher Roy and Brandon Hagopian joined the five‑member board after winning three‑year terms earlier this month. They succeed Sally Dwyer and Kathy Estes, whose terms expired this year and who did not seek reelection.
Roy introduced himself as the transportation director for Maine School Administrative District 59, while Hagopian said he works as a physical education teacher in the district.
During the board’s meeting Monday night, members unanimously elected Shawn Bean as chair and John Martins as vice chair, each to one‑year leadership terms.
The board also unanimously approved Stevens serving in multiple municipal roles for the coming fiscal year, including town manager, town clerk, town treasurer and town welfare director.
In her report, Stevens updated the board on the town’s finances as fiscal 2026 draws to a close. She said the town has collected 98.06 percent of projected revenue and has spent 87.47 percent of budgeted expenditures. She noted that expenses will rise as departments complete year‑end spending and process outstanding warrants.
Stevens also reviewed recent election activity, noting that 126 voters attended the town meeting and describing turnout for the June election as strong. She commended the election staff and said ranked‑choice voting ran smoothly.
She also noted that the Town Office is scheduled to be closed Tuesday, June 30, to allow staff members to complete year‑end financial business and prepare for the start of fiscal 2027.
In other matters, Recreation Director Evan Bourget reported that registration is underway for the summer recreation program.
The program, which runs from July 6 through July 23, is open to participants from Madison and Anson for $75 per child.
The board approved an agreement for Anson to cover half the cost of program counselors.
