What had been shaping up to be a Democratic primary battle between Gov. Janet Mills and insurgent newcomer Graham Platner has become mostly a formality after Mills suspended her campaign in late April. Platner must still contend with Democratic longshots David Costello and Andrea LaFlamme, but his path to the nomination and a clash with Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins in the general election looks all but certain.
