Living shorelines in Maine show mixed success
Efforts to combat erosion with natural materials at Popham Beach and Sebago Lake, among other places, show how landowners must factor continued upkeep into the projects’ costs.
Abi Brissett was an Ida B. Wells reporting intern for The Maine Monitor during the summer of 2026. Her internship was supported by the Ida B. Wells Society in collaboration with the Nonprofit Newsroom Internship Program created by The Scripps Howard Fund and the Institute for Nonprofit News.
As a reporter, Abi uses visual narrative storytelling to report on topics ranging from higher education to environmental issues to community arts. She is from Charlottesville, Virginia and earned a degree in political science and studio art from Davidson College. During her time at Davidson she was editor-in-chief of Hobart Park, Davidson's student run literary magazine, and news editor for The Davidsonian, Davidson's student newspaper.
