Carlyssa Baker is a Maine Monitor Dirigo Intern for The Maine Monitor’s Monitor Local initiative. Her internship is made possible by a generous donation from William and Sally Zierden.
She is passionate about community-centered journalism that highlights resilience and explores how communities navigate change. Originally from Rumford, Carlyssa is a rising senior at Bates College pursuing double majors in Anthropology and Gender and Sexuality Studies. She previously interned with Amjambo Africa where she published stories of hope and belonging amid a shifting political landscape affecting immigrant communities.
