The Maine Monitor and its publisher, The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, are pleased to welcome three additions to the independent, nonprofit news organization.
Kristian Moravec has joined the newsroom as The Monitor’s education and workforce development reporter.
She was most recently a reporter for The Times Record, where she covered the toxic firefighting foam spill in Brunswick, among other things. She has long been passionate about understanding various perspectives on different topics and has participated in various cultural exchange programs around the globe.
Though Moravec originally hails from Chicago, she has spent the past decade living on the East Coast and abroad. She moved to Midcoast Maine in 2024 to cover local news.
Elle Darcy has joined as an audience engagement director. She is a longtime digital strategist and brand storyteller passionate about creating meaningful online media. She believes in the power of journalism to foster conversation, spark curiosity, and strengthen our communities.
At The Maine Monitor, Darcy will focus on expanding reach, engaging audiences, and building continued trust through creative and strategic initiatives.
Greg Bates has joined as the institutional giving manager of the Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, which publishes The Maine Monitor.
He loves editing academic papers and books across a range of fields and co-founded Common Courage Press, a publisher of nonfiction books.
Bates will work with local and national foundations to secure the philanthropic funding needed to support the nonpartisan journalism of The Maine Monitor. Foundation grants contribute 60 percent of the operating budget.
