In the May edition of The Maine Monitor Radio Hour, editor Kate Cough spoke to government accountability reporter Josh Keefe, senior public health reporter Rose Lundy and elections reporter Matt Junker about some of The Monitor’s recent reporting.
Keefe talked about his analysis of the two major candidates that were, at the time of publication, running for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate: Governor Janet Mills and political newcomer Graham Platner.
Lundy spoke about her reporting on Maine’s second-largest health system, Northern Light Health, which has been in a downward financial spiral, losing money four years in a row.
The financial pictures of both the system’s flagship hospital in Bangor, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, and the health system overall improved last year, Lundy reported, showing it is possible to reduce losses, but it remains unclear if the changes will be enough to pull the system back from the brink as it continues to face other financial headwinds.
Junker, who joined The Monitor in April, discussed what stood out to him in his interviews with primary candidates for governor and Congress, the history of ranked-choice voting in Maine, and how he is planning to approach election coverage for The Monitor.
