Voter Guide: 2nd Congressional District
Androscoggin, Aroostook, Franklin, Hancock, Oxford, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Waldo and Washington counties, plus the following Kennebec County municipalities: Augusta, Belgrade, Chelsea, Farmingdale, Fayette, Gardiner, Hallowell, Manchester, Monmouth, Mount Vernon, Oakland, Randolph, Readfield, Rome, Sidney, Vienna, Wayne and Winthrop.
The race to replace outgoing Rep. Jared Golden features former Republican Gov. Paul LePage against Democratic State Auditor Matt Dunlap. Golden, a Democrat, has held the conservative-leaning district for eight years despite Donald Trump’s victories there in the past two presidential elections.
LePage has Trump’s backing and ran unopposed in the Republican primary, while Dunlap emerged from a crowded Democratic field to win his party’s nomination. The battleground CD 2 seat has looked to be a likely pickup for Republicans since Golden’s announced departure, but recent polling shows that the race could be tightening as Election Day gets closer.
